Nupps

I'm doing the Spring Mystery shawl from GoddessKnits and this is how I am doing the nupps.

The instructions for these nupps reads:
(k1.p1,k1,p1,k1) in stitch, take first 4 stitches created over last stitch created.

So basically, you will take 1 stitch, create  a total of 5 stitches in that one stitch, by knitting one, purling one, knitting one, purling one and knitting one all in the same stich, not removing the stitch from teh left needle until you have all 5 created.

The first knit one, leaving the original stitch on the left needle.

The first purl one, leaving the original stitch on the left needle. You do this for the next knit one, purl one and knit one. After the last knit stitch, you will remove the original stitch off the left needle, having 5 stitches blooming out of one on the right needle:

You then take the very first knit stitch, lifting gently and sliding it over the other 4 stitches. I compare it to a psso-slip one, knit one and pass the slip stitch over the knit stitch. The only difference is that you will be slipping a knit stitch over a purl, a knit, a purl and a knit. You will repeat this 3 more times, slipping the second stich created over 3 stitches, slipping the third stitch created over 2 stitches, and then slipping the fourth stitch created over 1 stitch.

It ends up looking like this.

You can also take the first 4 stitches and slip them ALL over the last stich created at once. I am doing one at a time.

it looks like this^ when you are done.

Usually, a nupp is created by a seies of knit and yarn overs in one stitch(increasing however the pattern calls for-usually a total of 5 to 7 stiches-k1,yo,k1,yo,k1 or k1,yo,k1,yo, k1,yo, k1) and then purling all those increased stitches together on the wrong side of the pattern. Renee called this more like a bobble than a nupp.

Did I just confuse or clarify?

Clue 1 Mystery Shawl

I finally got a picture.

And a picture of 3 days worth of work on the Sheep Shawl:

I can't believe all the times I've tinked in the orchard chart. I should be done with half the village, but I've had so much frustration with dropping yarn overs. It's going to be a long time on that pretty thing!

Pocked up a copy of "Victorian Lace Today" at the library. I was stunned that my Datling was actually looking at the pictures and commenting on if the particular shawl he was looking at looked warm or not. Maybe one day he'll appreciate the art of knitting!

Not.

Goddess Knits Mystery Shawl along

I have clue 1 finished. I'll get a picture later this afternoon to share. It's going to be fairly dense, as I chose to use the smaller needles.

I'm also trying to finish up some UFOs I've had going. I'll post those as I get them done as well.

AND..........I've decided to do the 10 Shawls in 2010 challenge from ravelry. I'm insane, I know. I have the patterns and yarns for 4 of them, the patterns for a total of 6 and I haev an idea of what I want to do for the other 4.

Sheep Shawl from Fiber Trends is a gift for a friend with breast cancer.

Heere Be Dragone is a gift for my Teen.

The Peacock Shawl is a gift for a friend that does wayyyyyyyy too much for our family.

The Mystery Shawl will end up being a give away.

Southwest Shawl will also be a gift for a friend.

Goddess Knits next mystery shawl along will be another gift for an acquaintance with breast cancer.

The last 4......hmm. no clue as of yet. Maybe one day I'll keep one for myself?

I doubt it

Yes. I'm still here. I had a bit of my enthusiasm for life destroyed, well, at least smashed really well for a long time. I'm back.

New knit along starting in a week. Yes, I'm insane. Starting a new huge project with a new baby on the way. Gack.

GoddessKnits has a Mystery shawl-along starting the 23rd. Fingering weight yarn, size 6 needles, 5 clues. We'll see.

I chose Knitpicks Gloss fingering weight in Jade:

jade

. It's a merino/silk blend. I'm doing my test swatch in Knitpicks Stroll Multi, Lilypad. with a size 6 needle. I may jump to the 7, just for a more lacy look.

Will I finish it? Will I KEEP it?
